How to Be More Ambitious

IMG_0216What does it mean to be ambitious? I can’t stop thinking about this particular question. It’s almost as if I’m obsessed with what other people’s opinions are when it comes to what ambition means. Recently, I wrote a book Ambition For Sale that challenges the notion of people being born with ambition. “They either have it or they don’t,” is what most people think but I beg to differ. It’s just not true.

I want to continue this conversation because it’s such a good one 🙂 I truly believe one can condition themselves to be more ambitious in everything that they do. It’s all about how bad you want it. I remember, when I was still in school I would procrastinate when it came to things that were due later. I use to thinking I could just cram it all in right before it (the assignment) was due. I absolutely went about things that way until I reached the university (after transferring from community college) during my third year of college. After that first semester, I’d experience what it was like being on academic probation.

Due to a tight schedule (from working full-time) and poor planning on my part. I was trying to juggle being a supervisor at my full-time job, a boyfriend and a more advanced school load as I had entered into my program of study that semester. I learned real fast what was of priority and what wasn’t. It definately whipped me into shape as I was nearing the end of my college career, I started to go harder. I was so close and I refused to fail after getting so far. My drive sped up and the closer I got to the end of my college year the drunker I became with ambition.

It was because at some point, I sat down and thought about what was of importance to me and as the saying goes, you’ll make time for what’s important to you. So how can you be more ambitious? It’s simple. Prioritize and Plan. I talk about it all the time in blog posts. Prioritize. Figure out what’s important to you, go after it and don’t stop until you get the results that you want. It’s what being Ambitious is all about. What does being Ambitious mean to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic in the comments below.
