Last week, I just wrapped up a series on setting goals and how it can save your life. In this post I’ll be elaborating on that a bit more. So, I’m sure you’re wondering how setting goals can save ones life? It’s simple. Setting goals helps one become more organized. In a sense, it helps one organize their thoughts to better prepare them in their plan of action. Today, I want to share with you five steps to help you become more organized.
1. Purchase a Planner
This is my favorite step and that’s why it’s ranked #1. I cannot stress enough the importance of managing your time and keeping track of those tasks on your to-do lists. Some prefer to create digital calendars but I actually prefer and suggest to write things down manually in a planner (especially for beginners). Honestly, right now I’m mostly keeping track of things digitally but in the beginning of my journey to becoming organized, I purchased planners(every year) and I used the hell out of it. It really helped.
2. Create a daily schedule and stick to it!
A lot of things that we do are out of habit including procrastinating. Create a schedule and stick to it; soon you’ll begin to do things naturally out of habit. I suggest starting with the time you wake up everyday. Pick a time to wake up everyday (make sure it allows you enough time to grab breakfast–the most important meal of the day!) and make sure to wake up at that time everyday. Keep this in mind when you’re figuring out your bed time as well. Once you decide when you’ll be waking up and going to sleep, then you can fill in your day between those two times and go about your day accordingly. The key is to make sure you’re waking up at the same time everyday and going to bed at the same time everyday in hopes that you’ll get use to your body’s routine and schedule your day accordingly around those two times. Remember: Not a minute shall be wasted. Manage your time effectively.
3. Make organization a priority
Set goals for yourself–Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly. Set goals and accomplish them! If something comes up (unless it’s life or death) that’s not on your goals list then ignore it as it should not be a priority. Friends want you to go out but you planned to work on a special project that night… then guess what? You don’t go out! Stay true to your word. Put your self and your priorities first because if you don’t, things will never get done. Organize your thoughts and tackle that to-do list. Once you’ve achieved what you set out to do, then it’s time to start thinking about your next set of goals. It’s a never ending cycle. You should always be striving to accomplish as it helps you grow as a human being and self growth should always be the motive!
